PWBA Tour champion Josie Barnes describes her 2019 as both “the best and worst” year of her life, and for good reason. In April, she won the first tour stop of the 2019 PWBA season and third career title overall in the PWBA Cleveland Open. Two months later, on June 30, during her birthday weekend, her mom Lisa was killed in a car accident at age 55. Two weeks after that, her grandfather passed away. By then, Josie was several months pregnant with her first child. She would give birth to that child on October 17, and today Lisa Ruth, named after her grandma, is a thriving baby girl. Barnes speaks with courage and candor on this episode of The Bowlers Journal Podcast about what it has been like for her and for her family to process what she herself has described on Facebook as their “year of pain.” In the meantime, she passed along some advice for those currently going through a similar loss, and also for those who have people in their lives who recently lost a loved one — what to say and what not to say — and much more.
