player profile

I am 35 years old and live in Joliet, IL. I graduated from St. Ambrose University with my teaching degree in English Language Arts and Special Education. My college bowling career started at Northern Illinois University as a player/coach. I spent a year at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater as an assistant coach and my final year of eligibility was used to help start the St. Ambrose University bowling team. I’ve traveled across the country bowling tournaments everywhere I could and have met many of my close friends through this wonderful sport. I even met my wife, Melanie McDaniel, because of bowling when we were in Vegas for Team USA Trials. My home center(s) are Town and Country lanes and Strike N Spare 2. I currently am in my 5th year as the assistant coach for the Willowbrook Girl’s Bowling team. I honestly prefer coaching over actually bowling myself. It is the most rewarding thing I do on a daily basis for 4-5 months out of the year.

Who / What Got You Started in Bowling?

My parents got me started in bowling. I basically grew up in the bowling alley as they both bowled on Monday nights and my dad bowled on Thursdays and Fridays. Every week I was there just being a kid. I bowled youth league from as early as I can remember and didn’t really become invested in bowling until my sophomore year of high school when a boys bowling team started. Once the team became a thing, I bowled every day and even my first job was working in the bowling alley.

What Do You Love About the Sport?

I love the sport because of the people I have met. That’s the honest answer. Without this sport, I would not have the friendships and relationships I currently do. With other sports, you meet a small group of teammates, but with bowling you are always meeting new people when you cross with them, or when you are just hanging out watching different squads. This sport allows for individuals to be successful, but also helps you work with others in order to achieve great goals in the team setting.

Favorite Bowling Memory

My favorite bowling memory is my first 300. My parents were there to witness it and I was even bowling with my dad. Having my parents there is a memory I will forever cherish.

Who is Your Favorite Bowler?

My favorite bowler growing up was Wes Malott. I always enjoyed his calmness on the lanes and being the “big guy” on tour. He was fun to watch growing up and I always wanted him to win!
